    Son of William & Elizabeth "Betsey" (Spier) Van Giesen, husband of Nancy (McLoud) Van Giesen. Henry & Nancy started their life together in Cayuga Co., NY where their children were born. They then made the move to Michigan and bought 120 acres of land in Easton Twp., Ionia Co., MI in 1864. In 1866, Henry's daughter Huldah married, and in 1867, his son William married and lived with Henry & Nancy, working the farm together. In 1873, Henry died leaving Nancy, William & Eliza, and nephew George Forshee to run the farm. Two years later in March, Nancy died and a month later, William died, leaving Eliza and George to run the farm. Three years later, Eliza married George. The farm went to Frank, William & Eliza's son.

    Tuesday morning. June 9, after several weeks' sickness, oar esteemed townsman, James J. McLood, passed on to " the further en " in the 66th year of his age. Mr. McLoad was prominent in business, political and masonic circles a few years ago. He was a member of the grocery firm of Ross & McLoad. Mr. McLoud taught school, he was a cavil engineer, he was justice of the peace three terms and represented this town in the Board of Supervisors in 1880. In 1888 he removed to Syracuse where he engaged in business, returning here a few years ago. Be was a good business man, genial, generous and a man of integrity. He is surrived by a widow, Mrs. Josephine Ross McLoud and three sons, Paul, Ross and Lewis D. McLoud of Syracuse, and a large circle of relatives and friends who cherish his memory of the days long gone by. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. J. R, McLoud on River street Thursday, Rev. G. A. Pearsell officiated. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mills sang favorite hymns. Interment at Prospect Hill cemetery and there schoolmates laid the body of their friend down to sleep.
