She had a sod house with wooden floors, a glass window and a small cellar. Herb Mills hand dug a well for her and put in wooden curbing. She planted some apple trees and those trees still produce four or five pails of apples each year. At one time Mrs. Heffner ran the Kirkwood Hotel in Velva which burned in 1903. Her homestead is now owned by Stanton Anderson. By Edna Anderson NETTIE WESTON homesteaded four forties in the middle of Section 31. She received her patent in 1907.
